McAfee is an American antivirus software company. As of 2014, it was one of the top five antivirus manufacturers with a 5.7% share of the global market.

Founded by Scottish American programmer John McAfee in 1987 as McAfee Associates. In 1992, the company was registered in Delaware. In 1994, John McAfee left the company. In 1997, McAfee merged with Network General to form a new company called Network Associates. It took over rival firm Dr. Solomon's Group in 1998, and in 2004 returned to its original name in an abbreviated form - McAfee.
